New research shows the cost of modern driving
Young drivers have received a stark reminder over the price of owning a car.
New figures released by tyre manufacturer Blackcircles has shown that a driver in the UK can expect to pay around £190,000 on their car in an average motoringlifetime of 63 years.
Breaking the expenditure down, Blackcircles identified that the biggest cost is the £80,808 spent on fuel, followed by the price of purchasing cars, which comes to £57,795.
Insurance is the next biggest outgoing, setting drivers back £23,970, followed by road tax (£5,777) and parking fines (£4,249)
Speaking about the report, Blackcircles’ spokesman said: ‘At first, it’s a big surprise to find out how much a typical driver is spending just on owning a car nowadays, but when you really break it down and look at how much you’re paying yearly for things like insurance, tax and MOTs it actually makes a lot of sense.’
The survey also found the typical driver in the UK will own 15 cars in their lifetime, spending an average of £7000 on buying a car at today’s prices.
As it stands, driving costs more than the average house price in the UK.
