Taxi drivers protest for safety
Taxi drivers have staged a protest on the streets of London to raise awareness of assaults and other illegal activity.
The demonstration was organised by The United Cabbies Group (UCG) and took place on Victoria Street, the headquarters for Transport for London (TFL).
The UCG are concerned about unregulated taxis in the capital, claiming that TFL are turning a blind eye to uninsured drivers and drivers who live out of their vehicle.
Commenting on the protest, United Cabbies Group chairman Len Martin said: "We have continually complained of a lack of enforcement creating a real and present threat to lone females at night.”
TfL however, has said that it had already taken action to address the cabbies' concerns, previously launching an operation to clamp down on illegal minicab activity.
