Shell enters the race for green cars

An unlikely company has entered the race to create the ultimate green car, Dutch oil giant Shell.

Traditionally more interested in fossil fuels, Shell have teamed up with Grand Prix car designer Gordon Murray and engine expert Osamu Goto to launch their ‘Project M’ initiative.

Billed as a search for a new green, ultra-compact, city-ready car, Project M is the first time the trio have worked together since they collaborated on Shell powered F1 cars in the 1980s.

Now though, Shell is looking to show the positive side of their work, demonstrating the potential of Shell’s lubricants and fuels to facilitate a congestion-reducing car within the budget of the ordinary motorist.

So far, Project M has focused on advanced aerodynamics and lightweight engineering, but Shell’s lubricants technology vice-president, Selda Gunsel, has intoned that they would be keen to work with new partners to further the project.

Project M is expected to report sometime before Christmas.
