Furry joy rider’s epic journey

Most of us at some point have had one of those white knuckle road journeys as a car passenger. But spare a thought for the brave soul in Australia who endured 88 kilometres of fist-clenching fear on the open road.

The adventurer – a koala bear named Timberwolf – was found clinging to the grille of a car after his epic journey as a stowaway.

He was reportedly hit by a car but managed hang on as it sped along a busy highway.

And, by the time he was discovered on the family’s car when they stopped at a service station in Queensland, the four-year-old had travelled an estimated 88km.

Remarkably he survived with no injuries, save for a broken nail, and is now recovering at The Australia Zoo.

Staff at the hospital named him after their football team.

Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital vet Dr Claude Lacasse said: “It is absolutely amazing that he has such minor injuries and he survived.

“We’re very thankful that the family called the Australia Zoo Wildlife Hospital, where we are open 24/7 and can give him the treatment that he needs. It is a truly remarkable story, he is a very lucky koala.”
