Drivers Set for Easter Boost

Drivers in England are set for an Easter boost with news that 99% of motorways and major A-roads will be free from roadworks in time for the long weekend.

Usually a time for increased traffic, a proactive approach from the Highways agency has seen them step up efforts to remove 459 miles of roadworks so from Thursday, April 18th to Tuesday, April 23rd, there will be far fewer chances of congestion due to ongoing works.

“We’re doing everything we can to make journeys as smooth as possible this Easter and that’s why we’re keeping around 99 per cent of the road network we manage free from roadworks,” said Highways England customer service director Melanie Clarke in a Highways England press release.

This came amid a warning of a substantial wave of congestion over the Easter weekend, due to sheer volume of traffic, following on from the school break up rush, which is expected to peak with 5.3million extra journeys – on top of the usual trips – during the busiest time of 3pm – 7pm on the Friday.

That’s the belief of the RAC, with traffic spokesperson Rod Dennis, speaking to the Independent, anticipating a busy getaway period.

“With the Easter bank holiday falling so late this year, we are expecting to see a double wave of getaway traffic,” he said.

To avoid unnecessary delays to your potential long journey, time it right to avoid the queues.
