Tips for Demisting your Car Windscreen

Demisting your car windscreen first thing in the morning can be time-consuming and frustrating, especially if you are running late for work!

However, not demisting your windscreen before beginning your journey is unsafe at best, and illegal at worst. To avoid having an accident, or getting in trouble with the law, here are some tips to keep the time you spend demisting your car to a minimum:

1) Heaters

Use your heaters – ensure that they are pointed at your windscreen, and then opt to start off with a low temperature and build to a warm temperature.

2) Air-con

If your car has air-con, use this alongside your heaters in order to dry the air out, which will stop condensation from re-forming on your window.

3) Don’t sit in the car

If you sit inside the car while waiting for your windscreen to demist, you may be inadvertently hampering your progress! Your breath will add to the moisture in the car, which can cause it to steam up further.

4) Use your car’s hi-tech features

If you have a relatively modern car, it may have a climate control system, which will have a setting for clearing your windows.

You could also consider methods to prevent your car windscreen from becoming misty in the first place. Cleaning your windows regularly can help prevent rain from building up, an anti-fog coating can prevent them from misting up, and a dehumidifier can remove some of the moisture in the air, allowing you to clear the windscreen more quickly in the event that it fogs up.
