How Can I Improve My Daily Commute?

If you’re feeling the strain of commuting to work each day, you might be wondering how you can make it less painful. Here’s some tips to help make your commute more enjoyable.

Walk to work

This isn’t an option for everyone, but if you live within walking distance of your place of work, you might want to consider hot-footing it to the office. Not only will this save you money, it could also lead to increased health and wellbeing, and improve your concentration throughout the day.

If you can’t walk the whole way to work, why not consider parking the car a bit further away from the office, or getting off the bus or train a stop early?

Do something rewarding on the journey

Use your commute to do something you enjoy. If you’re on a bus or train, you could spend the time reading something that interests you, or even try a meditation app!

Leave earlier or later

While it can be hard to get up early, much research into commuting has found that getting up earlier and having a less rushed commute has a positive impact on how much you enjoy your commute. You will find that you arrive at work feeling more relaxed and ready for the day.

If leaving the house earlier isn’t an option, you might want to consider whether your workplace offers flexitime, and if so, consider leaving later, and missing the rush hour crowds.

Take a break from technology

Most of us use a computer, or some form of technology, a lot during our working day, and spend plenty of time using our phones, browsing the internet or watching television at home as well. Why not use your commute to switch off? Thinking time can be valuable, as can enjoying a coffee or enjoying a good book, newspaper or magazine.
